Traeger Smoked Pork Butt

Updated: Oct 1, 2022

We like pork butts and we cannot lie!

INGREDIENTS:

A Traeger! ;-)

Traeger Pellets

Pork Butt around 9-10 lbs.

Honey Hog Rub by Meat Church (Available at ProTrade Hardware)

Apple Juice or Apple Cider Vinegar in a Spray Bottle

Aluminum Pan

Foil

DIRECTIONS:

  • Set Traeger to 250-275

  • Generously rub pork butt down with Honey Hog Rub

  • Place butt fat cap down in an aluminum pan

  • Place pan in Traeger for 6-8 hours. (If your butt is closer to 6-7 lbs. do 6 hours, if your butt is closer to 9-10 lbs. do 7-8 hours.)

  • Spritz with apple juice or vinegar every 45 minutes.

  • After 6-8 hours, pull the pan and cover tightly with foil

  • Set oven to 300 degrees for 3 hours. (This step can be done in the Traeger, however with the pan being completely covered in foil, no smoke will get to the butt, so save your pellets and use your oven on this step!)

  • Place pan in oven on a cookie sheet in case juices spill over. Do not open the door.

  • After 3 hours turn oven off and let the butt sit it the oven and rest. Do not open the door. No longer than 6-7 hours. It will be still hot when you pull it out. If you need to serve sooner, you can let it rest for a shorter amount of time.

  • Pull out the bone and start pulling the meat. Save the juices from the tray and add back in for extra juicy pulled pork.

This recipe can be completed with out the long resting time, you can remove and pull the pork to serve as soon as you take it from the oven. This recipe is so great you probably wont even want to use a sauce! However if you like it saucy....ProTrade Hardware has a HUGE selection of sauces to choose from! :-) #porkbutt #bbq #traeger #traegergrills #traegernation #traegerhood #porkbutts #pulledpork #kosmosq #meatchurchbbq #Recipes
